September shines an important spotlight on ovarian cancer — raising awareness, encouraging conversations and reminding those with ovaries to know the signs and listen to their bodies.
For Belles with Balls NL, that commitment extends far beyond one month. Ovarian cancer research, education and awareness are at the heart of what we do all year long.

Men’s Club at Cowan Heights United Church, 141 Frecker Drive will be having a garage sale on Saturday, September 19th from 8:30 – 11 am. Admission is $2.00. Come early as people are often lined up before 8 am. If anyone would like to donate anything; please drop it off Friday, September 18th at 7 pm.
Wesley United Church will hold a Flea Market and early reopening of the Thrift Shop on Saturday, September 19th from 9am to 2pm. Admission is $2 and donations will be welcomed for drop-off on Tuesday and Wednesday (Sept. 15 & 16) as well as 9am to 5pm on Thursday and Friday (Sept. 17 & 18). Donations of household items, small furniture, bedding, electronics, books, seasonal items and clothing would all be appreciated. Pick-ups can be arranged for Tuesday-Thursday 10 am to noon. The Newfound Riders are pleased to announce the 23rd Annual Constable Sam Jeffers Memorial Motorcycle Ride, taking place on September 19, 2026.
Registration will begin at 9:00 a.m. at the Peace and Police Officers’ Monument, Confederation Building East Parking Lot, with motorcycles departing at 10:00 a.m. under police escort.
The ride will travel west via the Trans-Canada Highway to Whitbourne before continuing through Blaketown, Dildo, New Harbour and across the New Harbour Barrens to Constable Jeffers’ Memorial near the Town Hall in Carbonear before riding through his hometown of Freshwater.
Proceeds from the event, along with donations received, will be directed toward the continued maintenance and preservation of police and peace officer memorials through the Newfoundland and Labrador Police and Peace Officers’ Memorial Association and the Constable Sam Jeffers Memorial.
The Newfound Riders welcome all motorcyclists and supporters to participate in this meaningful annual tradition.

The CLB Regimental Band is looking for musicians to join us. We’re a community-based, volunteer band made up of musicians from all backgrounds. Whether you’re an experienced musician, a high school music student, or haven’t played in years and want to get back into it, we would love to hear from you. No marching experience is necessary, we’ll teach you all you need to know. We rehearse every Monday and Thursday @ 7:30 in the Walter F. Learning Rehearsal Hall located in the CLB Armoury on Harvey Rd. On October 16, Guardians of Recovery invites you to Ben’s Benefit — a night of music, remembrance, recovery and hope.
Ben’s story is at the heart of this event.
His life was tragically cut short by addiction, but his story has become part of a much larger mission: to challenge stigma, educate communities and create better pathways to recovery.
It is an opportunity to remember those we’ve lost, celebrate those who have found recovery, stand beside families who are still fighting, and support the work of creating meaningful recovery solutions.
