Items we cannot accept for Community Matters include:
-For profit events
-Private fundraising events by/for individuals without board/community group oversight (online auctions/fundraising posts like GoFundMe, family organized fundraising events)
-Straight lottery/gaming events (Bingo, Chase The Ace, Poker) where the only or main reason to attend is participation in the lottery/gaming
-Events with a gaming element as a part of the program (ie: 50-50 draw at the dinner/dance) and not the sole reason to attend may be accepted.
The Rabbittown Learners Program Inc. are accepting applications for their Adult Basic Education (ABE) Level I Program. Both full time and part time enrollment options available. Wesley United Church Thrift Shop (corner of Patrick Street & Hamilton Avenue) is now accepting donations of new and gently used clothing as well as household goods and small appliances in preparation for the reopening of the Thrift Shop which will be announced soon. Saturday, September 12th / 7pm at the Arts & Culture Centre – St. John’s, there will a FREE public screening of “Don’t Tell The Newfoundlanders”, a documentary based on Greg Malone’s best-selling book that tells the true story of Newfoundland’s less-than-constitutional confederation with Canada in 1949. Featuring rare and never-before-seen archival film footage, as well as interviews with Newfoundland historian, John Fitzgerald, celebrated author, Bernice Morgan and renowned political satirist, Rick Mercer, the documentary also features recorded audio of the debates and arguments between Joey Smallwood, Peter Cashin and others at the National Convention leading up to Confederation. The Newfound Riders are pleased to announce the 23rd Annual Constable Sam Jeffers Memorial Motorcycle Ride, taking place on September 19, 2026.
Registration will begin at 9:00 a.m. at the Peace and Police Officers’ Monument, Confederation Building East Parking Lot, with motorcycles departing at 10:00 a.m. under police escort.
The ride will travel west via the Trans-Canada Highway to Whitbourne before continuing through Blaketown, Dildo, New Harbour and across the New Harbour Barrens to Constable Jeffers’ Memorial near the Town Hall in Carbonear before riding through his hometown of Freshwater.
Proceeds from the event, along with donations received, will be directed toward the continued maintenance and preservation of police and peace officer memorials through the Newfoundland and Labrador Police and Peace Officers’ Memorial Association and the Constable Sam Jeffers Memorial.
The Newfound Riders welcome all motorcyclists and supporters to participate in this meaningful annual tradition.

On October 16, Guardians of Recovery invites you to Ben’s Benefit — a night of music, remembrance, recovery and hope.
Ben’s story is at the heart of this event.
His life was tragically cut short by addiction, but his story has become part of a much larger mission: to challenge stigma, educate communities and create better pathways to recovery.
It is an opportunity to remember those we’ve lost, celebrate those who have found recovery, stand beside families who are still fighting, and support the work of creating meaningful recovery solutions.
