Items we cannot accept for Community Matters include:
-For profit events
-Private fundraising events by/for individuals without board/community group oversight (online auctions/fundraising posts like GoFundMe, family organized fundraising events)
-Straight lottery/gaming events (Bingo, Chase The Ace, Poker) where the only or main reason to attend is participation in the lottery/gaming
-Events with a gaming element as a part of the program (ie: 50-50 draw at the dinner/dance) and not the sole reason to attend may be accepted.
MHFA Training Opportunity
In partnership with the Canadian Mental Health Association, Society St. Vincent de Paul will be offering Mental Health First Aid for free to the community.

The Philharmonic Choir of the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra presents The Seafarer’s Requiem. Join us on May 10, 2026, for an afternoon concert at St. Andrew’s Church (the Kirk). Doors open at 3pm for a 3:30pm start time. Purchasing tickets in advance through the Holy Heart Box Office is highly recommended.
The Seafarer’s Requiem is a Celtic and classical fusion that combines the Requiem Mass and seafarer songs with tales of true stories taken from archives and documentaries about mariners and the people they leave behind.

The Canadian Red Cross is in need of volunteers to support their Emergency Management Program, the Canadian Red Cross assist families that are displaced from their homes in the event of a fire or other disaster. Wesley Church will hold the first of two Flipper Dinners on Thursday May 14th starting at 5 pm for takeouts and 6 pm for eat in. Tickets are $30 and should be paid for and picked up by Friday May 8th. Tickets will not be sold at the door but can be picked up at the Church on Friday, May 8th between 11 am and 1 pm.
