St. Lawrence ACW Portugal Cove will be holding a soup and sandwich supper on Wednesday, October 23 at 6:30 pm at the Royal Canadian Legion in Portugal Cove. This will be followed by the monthly card game at 8:00pm. Cost is $5 for supper and $5 for the card game. Please bring your own cards and baskets.

City of St. John’s is giving away free compost at the Robin Hood Bay Waste Management Facility, located at 340 East White Hills Road, every Saturday in October from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The compost giveaway is self-serve. Please bring your own gloves, shovels, and buckets to collect a maximum of 250 litres, or approximately 12 five-gallon buckets per visit. Mechanical equipment is not permitted. If you're using an open truck or trailer, you will be required to cover and secure the compost before you leave the site.

Traditional music performance series Good as a Concert returns with “Songs for All Souls,” a funny, foolish and frightful foray into the folklore of Newfoundland and Labrador. Join us on Saturday, October 26, 2024 at 7:30 pm in Suncor Energy Hall at the MUN School of Music building. Tickets are $25 (student tickets $20) and available at the door. They are pleased to welcome three new singers into the Good as a Concert family on this concert, with Pamela Morgan, Graham Wells, and Maria Peddle making their first appearance in the series. They are also happy to welcome back storyteller Catherine Wright. Alongside hosts Jim Payne and Eleanor Dawson, these performers are sure to thrill audiences with their exploration of Newfoundland’s rich folklore traditions. Good as a Concert, a collaboration between Memorial University’s Research Centre for the Study of Music, Media, and Place (MMaP), Singong Inc., and Eleanor Dawson, celebrates the coming season with lesser-known songs and stories from Newfoundland and Labrador’s folk music traditions.

Salmonid Association of Eastern Newfoundland (SAEN) 29th Annual Guenter Behr Moose Stew dinner
The SAEN Moose stew will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2024 at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 1 (57 Blackmarsh Road, St. John’s) in aid of projects linked to salmon and trout conservation. Doors open at 6, with supper to be served at 7.
There will be a silent auction with a wide variety of items available, including bargain Christmas shopping items for both fisherpersons and non-fishers. Wheel spins will be held for various prizes.
