Attendees will be treated to a fun filled night of live entertainment, bar & cafe service, international foods, and a live and silent auction . Paw2Love and New Life Rescue are holding an indoor adoption event, yard sale, bake sale and BBQ on from 10-4 on April 27 and 28 at Clarke’s Beach Town Hall located at  167 Conception Bay Highway in Clarke’s Beach.  There will be dogs and kittens available for adoption.

The annual SAEN Dinner and Auction will take place on Saturday, April 27th at Pleasantville Legion. All proceeds go to programs for the conservation and protection of salmon and trout and their habitats. Doors open at 6:00 pm followed by a delicious three-course meal at 7:00 pm and then silent and live auctions, raffles and games of chance. The Gower Street United Church Service and Social Club will hold a Flea Market and Jumble Sale on Saturday, April 27, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Lion’s Chalet on Mayor Avenue. The Gower Street United Church Women will also hold a Bake Sale and used Jewelry Sale at this event. Admission is $1.00. All are welcome!

The People of the Sea service will still take place at Memorial United Church in Portugal Cove, NL. We will honor and pay respect to all those who harvest, protect, regulate, study and research this huge natural resource.
     On Sunday, April 28th, 2024 at 2pm the People of the Sea service will welcome Her Honour the Honourable Joan Marie J. Aylward the Lt. Governor of Newfoundland and Labrador, His Honour Karl Thompson, harvesters, representatives of all three levels of government, members of the First Nations,  the Coast Guard, The Navy, Port Authorities, MUN, the Marine Institute and many others along with as many of the general public that we can fit in (seating may be limited). Join us in continuing The George Street United Legacy of People of the Sea. A reception will follow.

The city of Mount Pearl is offering a Slow Cooker Program, facilitated by Mary Hunt. For $10 a session, you can sign up .  April 30th (whole Chickens)  In this program you will learn food skills, how to read food labels, storing food safely, flyers, websites, apps, meal planning, substitutions, food budgeting, healthy eating, smart shopping tips, food and mood, mindfulness, and useful tips. St. John's Celebrates National Youth Week May 1 to 7 with free events and activities.

Carnival
Junior and senior high-aged youth are invited to the Paul Reynolds Community Centre, 35 Carrick Drive, for a free Youth Carnival on Tuesday, May 7 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. There will be giant-sized games, prizes and much more!

Youth are invited to swim for free at the following swims:

H.G.R Mews Community Centre, Friday May 3 from 7 to 7:50 p.m.
Please note that registration for these swims is not required, but space is limited.

St. Paul's ACW Goulds will be hosting a Spring Social consisting of Afternoon Tea with entertainment on Saturday May 4th from 2-4 pm in the Church auditorium.  Tickets are $15 and can be purchased from Joanne at 763-6644 or Kim at 743-0558.  Deadline to purchase tickets is May 1st.

Still have your eclipse glasses lying around? Bring them to a St John's library and we will send them in to Astronomers without Borders. Their Eclipse Glasses Recycle Program will get glasses to people who need them for the next eclipse.

Wesley United Church has the Fall Fair Committee Flipper Dinner on Thursday, May 9th, which will NOW BE AN EAT IN MEAL although takeouts will still be available. City of St. John’s invites visual artists to submit digital artwork for signage that will adorn decorative light poles throughout the Downtown Pedestrian Mall on Water Street. The digital artwork should be high-resolution artwork file(s) or scalable vector-based artwork file(s).

The artwork:
Will enhance the vibrant, colourful streetscape of Water Street.
Will contribute to the fun, inviting atmosphere of the Downtown Pedestrian Mall for residents and visitors.
Will celebrate the unique characteristics of the City of St. John’s.

Torbay Folk Arts Choral Group Kitchen Party at The Justina Center in Outer Cove on Saturday, May 11th from 7 to 11 pm for a fun night of music and dance. This is a 19 and over event with bar service as well as a 50/50 draw. Only 130 tickets being sold. They are 30.00 each and are available at Torbay History House or email TFAChoralgroup@gmail.com.
