Items we cannot accept for Community Matters include:

-For profit events

-Private fundraising events by/for individuals without board/community group oversight (online auctions/fundraising posts like GoFundMe, family organized fundraising events)

-Straight lottery/gaming events (Bingo, Chase The Ace, Poker) where the only or main reason to attend is participation in the lottery/gaming

-Events with a gaming element as a part of the program (ie: 50-50 draw at the dinner/dance) and not the sole reason to attend may be accepted.

Food Drive

When school closes for the summer, many children lose access to school breakfast programs, lunch association meals, and in‑school food pantries. That loss creates a significant rise in food bank usage across our communities.
Parsons Transportation, in conjunction with Knights of Columbus- Blessed Trinity Council 6792 are coming together to help fill that gap.
🛒 On Saturday, June 13 from 10am- 3pm, we will be onsite at Sobeys Long Pond CBS ready to collect donations in aid of the CBS Paradise Community Food Bank. Stop By, Say Hello and help us with the collection of non‑perishable food items which will help support local families through the summer months.

Breakthrough T1D Walk

Breakthrough T1D™ Walk is the largest fundraising event in Canada that unites the type 1 diabetes (T1D) community in support of the close to 300,000 Canadians with T1D.

The Walk is one of the longest standing and most successful fundraising events in the country and has a fundraising goal of more than $3 million from Walks held across Canada.

National Blood Donor Week

This National Blood Donor Week, taking place from June 8-14, Canadian Blood Services is celebrating the generosity of the more than 400,000 donors who currently sustain Canada’s blood and plasma supply.

During this week, a special donation event will be held at the St. John’s Donation Centre (7 Wicklow Street) on Saturday, June 13 at 11 AM to mark the 20th anniversary of Jill Snow, from St. John’s, receiving life-saving transfusions.

Music and Friends

Pleasantville Legion, 66 the Boulevard, will host ”Music and Friends”, a fundraiser on Saturday June 13 from 12:00 pm until 9:00 pm. There will be live music by a number of fine local musicians plus a BBQ and some limited kitchen items available along with full bar service. There is no set fee for admittance however donations will be gratefully accepted.

A Walk to Remember

Belles with Balls NL is officially launching Move for Her with our inaugural Move for Her Kickoff Ride — the beginning of a year-round movement dedicated to supporting ovarian
cancer research, education, and women’s overall health in Newfoundland and Labrador. This isn’t just a ride. It’s the start of something bigger.
Move for Her was created to bring people together through movement in all its forms. Whether you walk, run, roll, ride, paddle, dance, stretch, or gather with friends and family, everyone can
participate in a way that works for them — with or without a motor. Join The Belles as we cruise from 446 Logy Bay Road to the AWH Building in Portugal Cove–St.
Philip’s. Participants will gather at 2:15 p.m., with departure at 2:30 p.m. Wear your teal, bring your sunflowers, and help us make a statement of hope, strength, and solidarity.
Following the ride, participants are invited to stay for a community connection social featuring a complimentary BBQ and light refreshments as we celebrate the launch of Move for Her, connect
with fellow participants, and kick off a year of movement and impact together. How to Get Involved:

Neurodivergent social club the last Saturday of every month at 7 Ricketts Road in the gymnasium. We have something for everyone! We have multi-player video games, board games, arts and crafts, a Lego area, a “Quiet Zone” if someone becomes overstimulated, we also have giant bean bag chairs in our “Chill out zone” where young people can just hang out and chat, we have tons of fidgets, a life sized Tetris game, exercise balls, swivel chairs and snacks and drinks. We also have a parent area set up to help ease in anyone who may be nervous in, it also allows parents an informal way to communicate and receive support.
If you or someone you know identify at neurodivergent and are between the ages of 18-24 and want to make connections and friendships, please reach out to register at mlane@amalnl.ca

The fundraiser is for a new fire truck and to honor a fallen volunteer firefighter who lost his life in the line of duty exactly four years ago, Lieutenant David Marlow.
