Items we cannot accept for Community Matters include:
-For profit events
-Private fundraising events by/for individuals without board/community group oversight (online auctions/fundraising posts like GoFundMe, family organized fundraising events)
-Straight lottery/gaming events (Bingo, Chase The Ace, Poker) where the only or main reason to attend is participation in the lottery/gaming
-Events with a gaming element as a part of the program (ie: 50-50 draw at the dinner/dance) and not the sole reason to attend may be accepted.
The Canadian Red Cross is in need of volunteers to support their Emergency Management Program, the Canadian Red Cross assist families that are displaced from their homes in the event of a fire or other disaster. Memorial University and Champney’s West Aquarium, with financial support from the United Way of Newfoundland and Labrador, are hosting Memorial student led workshops at the Champney’s West Aquarium (Bonavista Peninsula) in July for children to learn about the rock we live on, the ocean that surrounds us and what lives within that ocean.
30th July – Survival of the Fishiest – discover the incredible journeys fish make throughout their lifecycles! Learn about iconic Newfoundland species such as the Atlantic salmon and American eel, and explore the challenges they face during migration.
The workshops are free, run from 10.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. and adults don’t have to stay. Registration is advised. Contact Catherine at cwcdo8@gmail.com to register.

Pleasantville Legion (66 The Boulevard) will be open on Regatta Day, August 5th, with all day off-street parking for $10 (vehicle access from East White Hills Road), activities and games of chance including crown and anchor, spin tickets, Nevada tickets & live music in the afternoon and evening. The restaurant and bar are open during regular hours and you can relax and have a meal or a cold drink on one of our patio decks. Barbecued hotdogs and hamburgers will be available for purchase just outside the Legion! There will be $5 parking and we will be open the previous evening on “Regatta Eve.” See you at the Pleasantville Legion!
Prince of Wales Collegiate graduating class of 1981 is celebrating their 45th reunion on Friday August 7, 2026 at the Elks Club, 19 Carpasian Rd, St. John’s. Organizers encourage graduates to purchase tickets ($40) for the event by going to the Facebook page or indicate your commitment to attend by email.

On Sunday, August 9th, from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., the Goulds Lions Club, in partnership with the Goulds Volunteer Fire Department, will host the 7th Annual Justin Blundon Memorial Car Wash in the parking lot in front of St. Kevin’s Junior High School on Main Road in Goulds.
All proceeds raised by the Goulds Lions Club and Goulds Leo Club will support local community projects, with the recipients to be announced following the fundraiser.

The Cancer Care Foundation’s Polka Dot Trot is back!
