Items we cannot accept for Community Matters include:
-For profit events
-Private fundraising events by/for individuals without board/community group oversight (online auctions/fundraising posts like GoFundMe, family organized fundraising events)
-Straight lottery/gaming events (Bingo, Chase The Ace, Poker) where the only or main reason to attend is participation in the lottery/gaming
-Events with a gaming element as a part of the program (ie: 50-50 draw at the dinner/dance) and not the sole reason to attend may be accepted.
The Friends of Memorial University Botanical Garden (FOG) are hosting their spring fundraising plant sale. You’ll find a fantastic selection of proven perennials, heaths, heathers, dahlias, rhododendrons, and shrubs in their Spring Sale on June 20th— many of which you can only find at the FOG plant sale!
Experienced gardeners will be on hand to answer questions and help identify plants suitable for your garden.
This rain or shine outdoor event will be held in the area directly across the road from Memorial University Botanical Garden, at 306 Mount Scio Road. Look for volunteer greeters wearing orange safety vests, as well as directional and parking signs.
This will be a cashless sale. Visa, MasterCard, and debit cards will be the only forms of payment accepted.
SASHBEAR WALK EVENT DETAILS: Date: Saturday, June 20
Time: 10:00 am to 1:00 pm (opening ceremony begins at 11am) Location: walk at Quidi Vidi Lake starts and ends at a tailgate party on Carnell Drive at the Quidi Vidi Lake/Dominion Parking Lot. All are welcome!
The Sashbear Walk is the largest event of its kind in Canada for emotion dysregulation and BPD, bringing together families, mental health providers, and community supporters to create a sea of orange and provide hope of a life worth living, for all.
Bottles for Blood Cancer in support of Team Amelia. Funds raised go directly to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada via Team Amelia’s fundraising page for Light the Night St. John’s and will be used by the society to support research and patient support programs.
Mercedes-Benz has generously offered to match funds raised up to $2500!

The Most Masculine Thing: A Panel Discussion on Men’s Mental Health
The Headcase Community NL will be hosting The Most Masculine Thing, a panel discussion focused on men’s mental health, on June 24.

The SPCA St. John’s will be reopening its SNAP Application on Wednesday, June 24 from 12:00pm – 5:00pm. We will be accepting 70 new applications for surgery dates being booked between July – August, 2026. For those who are interested in participating in the SNAP Program, please visit the SPCA St. John’s Website for details on the program, instructions on how to complete the online application form and the program requirements. The application will only be available on this date and time and will close again once it has filled.

Beginner’s Guide to Pride: How Can You Be an Effective Ally?
A panel discussion titled Beginner’s Guide to Pride: How Can You Be an Effective Ally? will take place on June 25. The event will focus on allyship and supporting 2SLGBTQIA+ communities.

Neurodivergent social club the last Saturday of every month at 7 Ricketts Road in the gymnasium. We have something for everyone! We have multi-player video games, board games, arts and crafts, a Lego area, a “Quiet Zone” if someone becomes overstimulated, we also have giant bean bag chairs in our “Chill out zone” where young people can just hang out and chat, we have tons of fidgets, a life sized Tetris game, exercise balls, swivel chairs and snacks and drinks. We also have a parent area set up to help ease in anyone who may be nervous in, it also allows parents an informal way to communicate and receive support.

A Benefit concert called “Ignite and Unite” featuring Petrina Bromley, Shelley Neville and Peter Halley is happening Monday, July 27th in Trinity at Riding Tide Theatre.
